Presenting Percy pencilled in for Punchy

Owner Philip Reynolds has mooted the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown as a possible starting point for Presenting Percy.

With had one previous outing over hurdles , he would just finish eighth although Even the eight-year-old was sent off favourite for the Gold Cup.
Most of those have now been solved, although Issues were then found which prevented him from running .
Reynolds told that the Irish Field:”It’s a case of so far, really great. Pat (Kelly, trainer) and Jerry Kelly (vet) are content with him and once they are happy that’ll do me.
“He had a little process to remove fluid from his back and that I don’t know if that had anything to do with the way he ran at Cheltenham. We also discovered he had bruising post Cheltenham.
“He is starting the season off exactly like everyone and the reality is that he might just be”a different horse”.
“This time last year I could not lie straight in bed with excitement. I think that the very best opportunity a horse has of winning a Gold Cup is straight after their newcomer season. He will be meeting with all seasons beginners.
“It’s a bit premature to say where he will return. Everything needs to be appropriate for him, although hopefully we’ll get started before Christmas.
“Clonmel will come too soon for him personally , as will Royal, so I guess you could be looking at the John Durkan in Punchestown. After that remains to be noticed, where he would go there is a lot of water to go under the bridge .
“I just hope we do not have another winter like last year – that the ground was fast all winter and a repeat would be a disaster.”
